<TD class="" width=554><FONT face=Arial color=#ffffff>Locate the two remote battery terminals in your engine compartment (positive, and negative) the positive terminal will always be covered with a plastic cover bearing a cross or positive sign. It may also be wrapped with red plastic tape or connector. (See attached above photo). The positive terminal will be found in different positions on different models. In this photo (An E39 528, it is located in the middle of the intake on the top of the engine. And here on the passenger’s side strut tower (Most E46 models). The negative terminal is similar in shape to the positive terminal but will be uncovered. Shown here on the passenger side of the E46.</FONT></TD></TR>

<TD class="" width=554><FONT face=Arial color=#ffffff>Whether you are using standard car-to-car cables or a “jumper box” the cables will be marked with red and black. Red will always be connected to positive and black will always be connected to negative. If you are using a second vehicle (this method is not recommended by BMW as you are unable to control the amount of power transferred from one car to another) Always connect both ends of the negative cable (black) to both cars prior to attaching the positive (red), then attempt to start the car. The second vehicle should not be started unless a car-to-car connection will not start the vehicle, and never should need to be “revved up” rather allow the second vehicle to idle once connected for 5 to 10 minutes to slowly bring the battery up to a correct charge.</FONT></TD></TR>

<TD class="" width=554><FONT face=Arial color=#ffffff>Some BMW’s will require having some systems reset after a battery failure. Most notably the clock, radio code or the seat memory settings. If you are unable to reset any of these things please contact the service department, we would be glad to help.</FONT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
