Hitting dealerships in the spring of 2022, the first-ever BMW iX is already wowing with its expansive all-electric range. BMW estimates that it’s capable of traveling up to 300 miles on a full charge. For Chicago drivers, this opens the doors to a world of convenience and adventure. Read on for more details about the 2022 BMW iX performance, range, and charging solutions!

BMW iX Range & Performance Specs

First and foremost, the BMW iX is a Sports Activity Vehicle. It promises capable performance from its base-level trim: BMW iX xDrive50. Later, BMW will release a BMW iX M60, but any information beyond that is scarce as of this writing. What is known, however, is that the BMW iX xDrive50 is furnished with dual electric motors and a powerful battery capacity of up to 113 kWh. With these components in place, the BMW iX is estimated to achieve the following performance figures:

  • All-Electric Range: 300 miles
  • 0 – 60 MPH: 4.6 seconds
  • Maximum Horsepower: 516 hp
  • Range Available When Charged w/ DC Fast Chargers (up to 200kW): 90 miles

The 2022 BMW iX will also come equipped with standard electric all-wheel drive, so you can expect full control whether you’re running errands around Chicago, or hitting the road on a weekend adventure.

The 2023 BMW iX M60 has debuted at the 2022 Chicago Auto Show, and this advanced variant delivers even more power.

How to Charge the BMW iX

Now that you have a general answer to the question, “How long does the BMW iX battery last?” you’re probably wondering how charging works. BMW Charging, which is partnered with EVgo, is the brand’s charging program. It guarantees charging solutions for BMW EVs like the iX. When you purchase a BMW EV, you’ll have the following charging options at your disposal, so you can charge up and go:

  • BMW WallBox: You can install the BMW WallBox in your garage or anywhere at home that’s suitable. It’s a Level 2 charger that can charge the iX to full capacity in about 9 hours.
  • 800+ Nationwide Charging Stations: Through BMW Charging, you can take advantage of over 35,000 Level 2 chargers nationwide and can get up to 80% electric power in less than an hour.
  • Flexible Fast Charger: Keeping this portable device on hand is a great way to maximize the BMW iX range. It can be used with a 120- or 240-volt power outlet. When you plug it into a 240-volt, you’ll get 100% power in less than 9 hours.
